Jet Set Radio
There are a few video games that have really shaped my creative influences. Jet Set/Grind Radio (JSR) and Jet Set Radio Future (JSRF) are in the bunch. The art direction, the gameplay, and the music resonated with teenage Lewis.
Jet Set/Grind Radio (JSR) and Jet Set Radio Future (JSRF) are two groundbreaking video games released for the Dreamcast and Xbox consoles. The games were developed by Sega and are known for their unique cel-shaded art style, their fast-paced and stylish gameplay, and their eclectic soundtrack.
The art direction of JSR and JSRF is one of the most striking things about the games. The characters are all cel-shaded, which gives them a comic book-like appearance. The environments are also colorful and vibrant, with graffiti and other urban art. This art style was unique at the time of the game's release, and it helped create a sense of atmosphere and style unmatched by any other game at the time and even today (except for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk)
The music of JSR and JSRF is one of the most critical aspects of the games. The soundtracks are full of eclectic and upbeat music that perfectly captures the game's atmosphere and style.
JSR and JSRF had a profound impact on me as a teenager. The game's art direction, gameplay, and music resonated profoundly with me and helped shape my creative influences. I am still a massive fan of the games today, and I am always grateful for the impact that they have had on my creative life.
With all that said, here’s my JSR-esque illustration.
