Real world painting

It may be nostalgia, but I’ve been drawn to more tangible creative outlets. I’ve been ordering more design/art books and magazines. A big 4k monitor will never match the smell and texture of a good book/magazine, so I made a painting. The connection may be vague, but it’s there, believe me.

I had this big canvas for well over a year, with intentions to paint, but I was too afraid, so I used it as a backdrop for my photography.

I finally through some spackling on it. Why? For texture and to break the hold this pristine canvas had on me. It was a success. Next, I used a projector so I can lay down my sketch lines. It was off to the races.

Some minor additions will be made but for the most part this is complete. There will be more to come and it’s exciting. The process was challenging and thoroughly fulfilling.
